Remote support
We can offer in-person or remote support. If you have an issue that you could fix yourself with a bit of guidance, then we can talk you through the steps over the phone. We can also remotely connect to your laptop or desktop to perform diagnostics. If we discover something that needs hands-on service, we’ll come to you at a convenient time to carry out the work.
Computer, Internet and Network Setup
It doesn’t matter how good your gear is – if it’s not set up correctly, it’s not going to work as well as it should. Perhaps your email won’t sync correctly, your computer can’t find your printer, or your Wi-Fi speeds aren’t up to scratch. Maybe you just need help knowing where to plug everything in. We can come to your home or office to troubleshoot all your technical issues, set up your devices for optimal performance, check your network is secure, and provide advice on new or upgraded gear, if required.
We can help you with:
- Setting up a new laptop or desktop
- Setting up a new modem and wireless network
- Setting up printers and scanners
- Configuring email accounts and security software
- Setting up home or office networking between computers
- Troubleshooting Wi-Fi problems
- Network security and firewalls
- Fine-tuning your wireless internet speeds
- Smart TV, Chromecast or AppleTV setup
- Device-specific training
- Advice on the best equipment for your needs
- And more
We may be able to walk you through simple troubleshooting over the phone, but if you need hands-on assistance, we’ll come to you at a time that suits you best.
OUR SERVICES
Data Backup or Recovery Support
Like anything mechanical, the hard drive in your laptop or computer has a limited lifespan. If it suddenly dies, so does your ability to access the data you’ve stored on it, which could include things like precious photos and videos, important documents, video game progress, or your entire music library.
To keep your data safe, you need to back it up. To do this, you need two things – some backup software and a place to store your backed-up files, such as an external hard drive, network-attached storage (NAS) system, or in the cloud. A good backup might take a bit of configuration initially but should then run quietly in the background, continuously making copies of new and changed files on your computer. Then, if the worst happens and your hard drive fails – or you accidentally delete something important – you can restore those files from your backup.
If you’ve already suffered a hard drive failure and don’t have a backup, all is not lost. Sometimes it is still possible to retrieve your data.
Skylink IT Services can help you with:
- Choosing and installing the right backup software for your needs
- Setting up local, network, or cloud-based backups
- Configuring your backup plan
- Retrieving lost data, where possible
- Restoring your device from a saved backup
- Setting up and configuring a NAS (network-attached storage) system
- Syncing backups across devices
We’ll come to your home or office at a time that suits you to ensure that you’re fully protected against the loss of your valuable data.
Email Setup & Support
Whether you’re transferring existing email accounts from one device to another or need help to create new email accounts, we’ve got you covered.
We can:
- Set up your existing accounts on new devices
- Transfer saved emails from old devices to new ones
- Connect your preferred email client to your business, ISP, or webmail accounts
- Sync your email across multiple devices
Health Checks
Is your computer no longer running as well as it used to? Is it slow to start up, shut down, or launch programmes? Do you get indecipherable error messages? Is your hard drive cluttered with files that you’re not sure are necessary? Or perhaps you just want to make sure your PC or laptop performs optimally.
Getting your computer’s health checked regularly will ensure it runs faster and with fewer problems, as well as pick up the warning signs of failing components. We can give your laptop or PC a thorough inspection and bring it back to full health, including optimising disk usage to free up space on your hard drive.
Data Destruction
If you have a laptop or computer that you would like to resell, repurpose, or dispose of, it’s important to make sure all of your sensitive data has been removed from the hard drive. Simply deleting the files does not completely erase them from the system.
At Skylink IT Services, we have specialised equipment that wipes data to an extremely high standard, rendering it unrecoverable.
